CHILE AGREES TO PAY FOR ENVOY'S '76 SLAYING

The new government of Chile agreed in principle on Saturday to pay compensation for the killing of Orlando Letelier, a Chilean exile leader assassinated in Washington 14 years ago.

Chilean and American officials said the countries had reached an agreement to create an international tribunal to determine the amount of compensation. Chile would make payments to the U.S. government, which has said it would give the money to relatives of Letelier and Ronni Moffitt, an aide to Letelier who was also killed when their car was bombed Sept. 21, 1976.
