DRUG SUSPECT FREED IN N.Y. HELD IN VA.

Federal prosecutors have successfully appealed the granting of $1 million bail to a man charged with playing a major role in drug trafficking between New York and Hampton Roads.

At a hearing Friday, U.S. District Judge J. Calvitt Clarke overturned the bail granted by a New York magistrate to Arnold Eddleton.

Eddleton, 45, allegedly made 35 trips from New York to Norfolk to distribute quantities of cocaine ranging from 12 1/2 ounces to several kilograms. A kilogram is equal to 2.2 pounds. Eddleton was arrested about a week ago in New York but later was released on bond.
