SHOTS FIRED AT MOVING CARS

Police are investigating two reports of shots being fired at cars over the weekend as they passed through the area of the Lincoln Terrace housing project and Hunt Avenue in Northwest Roanoke.

Michael David Minnix, 24, of Franklin County, told police he was driving the 800 block of Hunt Avenue about 11:30 p.m. Saturday when two men approached his car.

One of the men fired three shots from a handgun. Minnix was not injured.

Less than an hour later, there was a shooting and robbery involving a passing car at nearby Lincoln Terrace.

Gary Nathan Griggs, 26, told police he had caught a ride with an unidentified man and was on the 1700 block of Downing Street when three men began to throw beer bottles at the car.

One of the bottles struck Griggs in the face injuring him slightly, police said.

The men then ran up to the car, pulled guns and demanded money, Griggs told police. As Griggs got out of the car and gave the assailants about $120, the driver drove away.
