PUSH IS ON TO IMPROVE FIRST-TIME TRUCK DRIVERS

The Commission of Accredited Truck Driving Schools has announced a joint effort by national carriers and tractor-trailer schools to improve the number and quality of first-time drivers.

During a meeting last month in Washington, D.C., carriers and schools called for creation of a council to begin a joint advertising effort to attract quality people to the industry; to increase the number of companies providing payroll deductions for drivers to pay off student loans; to secure private money or develop alternative means of federally subsidized money; and to develop a nationally recognized industry specific admissions test.
