CIVIC LEAGUE PRESIDENT TO ADDRESS GATHERING

Maxine Waller of Wythe County will give the keynote address June 2 when Mountain Empire Community College hosts a regional Conference on the Environment and Sustainable Economic Alternatives from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Waller is president of the Ivanhoe Civic League, which has spearheaded efforts to revitalize the Ivanhoe community in recent years. She will speak on "Jobs that Sustain our Communities."

Workshop topics include building community-based organizations for the long haul, recycling, landfills and incinerators, and sustainable economic development.

A pre-registration fee of $5 per person or $10 per family received by May 30 will cover box lunches for all participants. Fees at the door will be $7 and $12, with lunches provided if enough are available.
