MISSING RESIDENT OF ADULT HOME FOUND

A woman missing from a Botetourt County home for adults since Friday was found Monday evening in a wooded area less than a mile away and taken to a nearby hospital.

Glen Dorothy Smith, 69, a resident of the Shenandoah Acres Adult Home on U.S. 11, was dehydrated and weak, but she escaped serious injury or illness, authorities said.

She was taken to the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem and was listed in stable condition Monday night.

Smith apparently wandered away from Shenandoah Acres about 7 p.m. Friday and became disoriented.

More than 40 people, including a special unit of horseback searchers, looked for the missing woman Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

But by Monday, authorities said they had nearly exhausted all the possible places to look near the adult home.

Footprints believed to be Smith's were discovered earlier in the day near where the woman was eventually found. Searchers then concentrated their efforts in that area.

Smith was found sitting in a wooded area off Blue Ridge Turnpike, formerly Virginia 606, at about 6:30 p.m.
