LITTLER TOPS PICKS FOR GOLF HALL OF FAME

Gene Littler, the 1961 U.S. Open champion and seven-time Ryder Cup team member, has been elected to the PGA World Golf Hall of Fame along with Bill Campbell, a past president of the U.S. Golf Association, two-time PGA champion Paul Runyan and the late Horton Smith, winner of the first Masters in 1934.

\ The District of Columbia Council passed emergency legislation banning organized sports gambling in the nation's capital after being told that the planned game would hurt the city's chances of gaining a major-league expansion franchise in baseball.
