HANSON'S FIRST HALF NET INCOME $995 MILLION

Hanson PLC, the British owner of Grove Worldwide, coming to Salem, and MW Manufacturing in Rocky Mount, reported net income of $995 million for its first half, ending March 31, up from $985 million last year. Sales declined slightly to $5.9 billion from $6.2 billion.

Lord Hanson, chairman, said the company remains in a strong position to continue development, both by acquisition and internal investment.
