STATE WARNS ABOUT CHARITY

The Virginia Division of Consumer Affairs has issued an alert about an unlicensed charity operating out of a Roanoke hotel.

Investigator Shirley Harvey said the division is trying to locate Robert Carnes and John Philpott, who solicited funds for a charity they called Disabled Valley Athletes.

The men may have been operating in Roanoke and Roanoke County for about a month, Harvey said. The men disappeared once the Division of Consumer Affairs began its investigation in response to inquiries, she said.
