112-YEAR-OLD SCHOOL GETS $300,000 GIFT

Oak Hill Academy, a 112-year-old Baptist boarding school for students in grades 8-12, has received a $300,000 gift from a Pearisburg woman in memory of her husband.

Edith Ingram made the gift to the school's capital campaign in memory of Raymond M. Ingram who, blinded in an accident at age 7, became a successful businessman and entrepreneur in Pearisburg.

The donation, to be paid over three years, will help on construction of a second gymnasium and multi-purpose building to be used for sports, concerts, graduations and large group assemblies.

The school's $2 million "Strengthening the Commitment" campaign also seeks funding for constructing a new dormitory and other campus improvements. Ground was broken May 4 for a new $800,000 boys' dormitory to replace the one destroyed by fire last Feb. 21.

The new dormitory will house 40 boys, with two apartments for houseparents. It was designed by Echols-Sparger & Associates of Marion.
