THE GOP ALSO HAS ITS CLOWNS

THIS IS in reply to the May 2 letter by R. Keith Whitley of Bedford.

The Republicans, the Republicans, the Republicans, the Republicans and the Republican clowns are in a political dilemma so insubstantial and so inadequate that their reign of 26 years out of 38 years has become a satire comparable to a burlesque.

For the record, and in hopes of clearing the political air surrounding all Republican clowns: Why was President Reagan allowed so few press conferences? President Bush knows when to shut up; Reagan did not. Is that the reason?

Why is Congress always readily blamed for many situations or decisions?

President Harry Truman called the shot when he said: "The buck stops here at my desk."

So, we Democrats, we clowns, do listen. We comprehend very well and we do care. EMILY P. BARLEY ROANOKE
