MAN CHARGED IN SHOOTING OF TEEN-AGER

A teen-ager was wounded outside a Southeast Roanoke fast-food restaurant early this morning, police said.

Timothy Allen Shephard, 18, of the 900 block of Tazewell Avenue Southeast, was found by police lying next a dumpster near to the Hardee's on the 600 block of Ninth Street Southeast about 1:05 a.m.

He had been shot in the lower left abdomen, police said. Police determined that he had apparently been shot from a parked car as he approached the restaurant on foot.

A short time later, police stopped a car that was traveling fast on Jefferson Street with no lights on.

One of the men in the car tried to hand a gun to a passing transient as he got out of the car, police said.

Toney Joe Simmons, 24, of the 400 block of Allison Avenue Southwest, was charged with malicious wounding.
