In contrast to their outrage when the board decided to go coed, the 200 students and alumnae who gathered on the green lawn of Toyon Meadow at 1:52 p.m. Thursday were clapping and laughing.
"We are victorious," student leader Anna Stravato told the gathering of student strikers who had marched to the celebration rally from encampments at six administrative office buildings that had been their homes for 14 days.
Stravato said the decision to stop the strike, which halted all college business, eliminated five days of classes and upset final exam schedules, was "an act of good faith" toward the board of trustees.
"We have made our point," said Stravato, a junior. "This strike is a dam stemming the tide of closings of women's colleges across the country." - Associated Press
