The State Corporation Commission has scheduled a hearing on Appalachian Power Co.'s request for an 8.3 percent increase in rates for Sept. 13 at 10 a.m. in the Jefferson Building in Richmond.

An SCC hearing examiner will make a recommendation on the request and the final decision will come from the three SCC commissioners.

Apco's request for an increase of $5.60 per month for an average residential customer will be placed in effect on an interim basis on Aug. 27, subject to refund with interest and pending a final order by the SCC.

The SCC said those wishing to comment on the application should appear by 9:45 a.m. at the hearing and report to the SCC bailiff. Written comments should refer to case number PUE900026 and should be sent to the clerk of the SCC, Document Control Center, P.O. Box 2118, Richmond 23216, by Aug. 16.
