PAN AM PUTS SHUTTLE ON MARKET

The Pan Am Shuttle was placed on the market Friday as money-losing Pan Am Corp. tries to raise money for the operation of its biggest subsidiary, Pan American World Airways.

Pan Am has previously indicated it was looking for partners after coming off one of the worst years in its 62-year history.

The decision puts both air shuttle services along the heavily traveled Northeast Corridor up for sale.

Developer Donald Trump hired Merrill Lynch & Co. in April to negotiate the possible sale of Trump Shuttle, which he acquired a year ago for $365 million.

One industry analyst, Kevin Murphy of Morgan Stanley & Co., estimated Pan Am may get $350 million for its shuttle, which he said controls about 55 percent of the East Coast air shuttle market.

Possible suitors include the airlines Delta, American, USAir and America West.
