BARTER TO OPEN WITH NEIL SIMON `MEMOIRS'

Neil Simon's "Brighton Beach Memoirs" will launch Barter Theatre's regular season when it opens May 30 for a three-week run.

The gala celebration of the theater's 58th season will be June 1, with the performance starting at 7:30 p.m. A party will follow on the Barter Green. Tickets to the theater for this performance are $11 and the after-theater party is $7.

In keeping with the time setting of the play, informal dress or dress of the 1930s is suggested for the party.

The play was inspired by Simon's own youth and his relationship with a large family. "Simon presents an interesting family at a special time in American history," said Rex Partington, Barter's artistic director and producer. "Even when he explores serious issues, he is so downright funny."

"Memoirs" will continue through June 23. Further information and reservations are available by telephoning 628-3991 or 1-800-572-2081.
