NAMES & CHANGES

PATRICK J. DOWLING, vice president Dowling of Ohio Blow Pipe, has assumed management of the company's new manufacturing facility in Martinsville. The new plant, a wholly owned subsidiary, will operate under the name Advanced Airsystems. Dowling has been with Ohio Blow Pipe for more than 30 years.

\ LARRY E. GEARHART has been named manager of Appalachian Power Co.'s Beckley, W.Va., Division, effective July 1. He is currently manager of hydro generation in the company's General Office Hydro Department in Roanoke, a position he has held since 1986. Gearhart joined Appalachian in 1972 as an operations engineer in Roanoke.

\ MARGUERITE H. LINK has been named Link Southwest Regional Secretary of the Year by the Virginia Department of Health. She is a secretary for the Roanoke City Health Department, where she has worked for five years. Link competed against eight other district winners for the award, which is given in honor of outstanding service to public health.

\ GEORGE WILLIAM COLEMAN JR. has been promoted to senior vice president, commercial account manager of Crestar Bank in Martinsville. He joined the bank in 1973 as a marketing representative.

\ E. BRUCE WILSIE has been appointed vice president of Johnson & Higgins of Virginia, Inc. and deputy branch manager of the Roanoke office. He will assist in the day-to-day management of the office.

\ SUSAN MEEK MORGAN has been promoted to assistant vice president of Sovran Bank. She will be responsible for commercial accounts and business development in Carroll and Grayson Counties and commercial accounts in Pulaski County. Morgan will be based in the Pulaski Office Commercial Division.

\ MICHAEL C. ANDERSON of Valley Ford Tractor Co. has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Virginia Equipment Dealers Association. The association serves Virginia farm, industrial and outdoor power equipment dealers.

\ W.H. KROME GEORGE and\ RALPH F. LEACH have retired from the Board of Directors of Norfolk Southern Corp. George was a former chairman and chief executive of Aluminum Co. of America. Leach was a former chairman of the executive committee of J.P. Morgan & Co., Inc. and its wholly owned subsidiary, Morgan Guaranty Trust Co. of New York.

\ TOM E. SMITH has been named chairman of the board of directors of Food Lion, Inc. He will continue to serve as president and chief executive officer.
