Mrs. Jonie Evelyn Staton Irby Wingfield, age 81, of Route 1, Box 203,
Lynchburg, died Saturday, May 19, 1990, in Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was
the wife of Earl D. Wingfield. Her first husband was the late Julian C. Irby.
Born in Amherst County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Staton and Nora
Elizabeth Lawhorn Staton. She was the former owner and operator of Earl's and
Evelyn's Antique Shop and was an active member of Shiloh United Methodist
Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty I. Nichols, and a
grandson, Stephen J. Irby. In addition to her husband she is survived by two
sons, Quintus C. (Bud) Irby, Smith Mountain Lake; Ronald H. Irby, Lynchburg;
two daughters, Virginia I. Baker, Vinton; Julia I. Mann, Roanoke; four
sisters, Essie Padgett, Forest; Elise Ewers and Helen Kitchens, both of
Lynchburg; Edith Padgett, Michigan; eight grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Monday
at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. Steve Corbett with entombment in
Virginia Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the
funeral home from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday and at other times at the
residence. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
