Joseph J. Ashworth, age 51, died Saturday, May 19, 1990, in the V.A. Medical
Center, Salem. He was a veteran of the Korean and Viet Nam Conflicts, serving
in the Air Force for 20 years. He was the son of the late Jarman C. and Mary
Burk Ashworth. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hester L. Ashworth.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ashworth and Susan Ashworth, both of
Christiansburg; three stepsons, David Hubbard, Steve Hubbard, Larry Hubbard;
nine sisters, Ethel Falassi, Thousand Palms, Calif.; Nettie Hensley, Roanoke;
Elva Owens, Christiansburg; Madeleen Owens, Clio, Mich.; Hazel Hartsock,
Salem; Edith Lilly, Flint, Mich.; Marie Alderman, Martinsville; Alizabeth
Barker and Mary Lynch, both of Salem; three brothers, James Ashworth and
Charles Ashworth, both of Christiansburg; Robert (Bob) Ashworth, King, N.C.; a
very dear friend, Arlena Johnson, Laurel, Md.; three grandchildren. Funeral
services will be Tuesday, May 22, at 11:00 a.m. at Hoy-McCoy Funeral Home
Chapel in Blacksburg. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery with military
honors. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at
Hoy-McCoy Funeral Home in Blacksburg.
