TAZEWELL COUNTY MAN ARRAIGNED IN SLAYINGS

A Tazewell County man was arraigned Monday on charges growing out of the April 16, 1989, murders of three members of a Pocahontas family.

The arraignment of Ricky Perdue came a week before another county resident, Samuel S. Ealy, goes on trial for capital murder in the fatal shootings of Robert and Una Mae Davis and the woman's 14-year-old son, Bobby Hopewell.

Perdue, who lives in Bossevain, is charged with having helped plan the murders. Ealy, whose trial begins May 29 and is scheduled to last five days, is charged with actually committing them.

No preliminary hearing has been set for Perdue, who was arrested late Friday. Ealy was charged once before with the killings. The charges were dropped, and later he was charged again and indicted.
