THE PEOPLE COLUMN

Ted Turner and Jane Fonda were the hottest item at the Atkanta anniversary party for Turner's Cable News Network, which turns 10 on June 1.

The couple turned heads throughout the celebration Sunday night at CNN Center, headquarters for Turner Broadcasting.

But the spotlight didn't keep them from being openly affectionate. While a highlight tape of CNN's first 10 years was shown on a giant monitor, Fonda wrapped her arms around Turner's waist and rested her chin on his shoulder and he caressed her hand.

\ Joan Collins was to have starred in a film version of her 1988 novel "Prime Time," but Ion Pictures says it has abandoned the project because she tinkered with the script and ran up huge expenses.

Co-producer Roy Medawar said Collins, 57, charged $40,000 worth of clothes to the movie without approval and "made script changes without telling the director."
