HAYES, SEAY MERGER MOVES COMPANY INTO COMMUNICATIONS

Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern of Roanoke and Communications Technology Associates of Lynchburg have merged.

Operating as the communications division of Hayes, Seay, Communications Technology Associates will continue under that name in Lynchburg with all of its current staff. Bob Forrest, a founder of CTA, has become a vice president of Hayes, Seay. Another founder, Ed Howard, is division manager of telecommunications business development.

Hayes, Seay is the country's 35th largest architectural, engineering and planning firm serving the commercial and industrial market.

CTA engineers are involved in the design and implementation of two-way radio, fiber optic, microwave and other telecommunications systems in the United States and overseas.

The two companies have worked successfully in the past in joint projects for public safety two-way radio systems. CTA did electronics design and specification for propagation, radio system, consoles and operational considerations and Hayes, Seay provided designs and specifications for physical facilities such as towers, foundations, buildings, primary and backup power and similar systems.

The joint projects include public safety and general government two-way radio systems, microwave and high-frequency radio systems for state emergency operations centers, a statewide multiagency two-way radio system and comprehensive master plans for all communications systems for the transit agency in a major metropolitan area.

Boyd Dickenson, chairman of Hayes, Seay, said the merger is a major milestone in expansion of telecommunications services. He said the company goal is to operate in all major technical areas such as fiber optics, voice-data integration, local area networks and satellite communications.

Forrest said integration in design of electronics and physical facilities is unique in the industry.
