NORFOLK CHILD HIT IN DRIVE-BY SHOOTING

A 9-year-old boy was shot in the chest from a passing car as he watched a horseshoes game, according to police.

Donnie Burden was watching the game behind the apartment where he lived when he was shot Sunday.

Donnie was in serious but stable condition at a hospital.

Police have arrested three men in connection with the shooting. David Platt, 21, has been charged with malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Johnie Reed and Victor Edwards, both 18, also were charged with malicious wounding.

Police said Platt told them one of the horseshoes players had earlier shot at him. After spotting the man, police said Platt drove to his home where he picked up a handgun, returned to the horseshoes game, and opened fire. - Associated Press
