MAN TO SERVE 12 MONTHS FOR LARCENY

A Glade Spring man facing attempted capital murder, abduction and other charges in Carroll County has plead guilty to petty larceny in Wythe County and been sentenced to 12 months in jail.

James Burton McGee was originally charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit larceny. He entered a guilty plea to the reduced charge Monday in Wythe County General District Court.

McGee, 29, was charged in connection with a break-in at a home in the Muskrat section of Wythe County, in which a nine-shot .22-caliber pistol and an undisclosed amount of cash were taken.

The break-in was discovered Jan. 22, the same day an intruder broke into a Carroll County home, shot Tommy Gene Slusher at least four times and held Slusher's wife captive for nearly six hours until she freed herself and escaped. The shooting occurred late in the afternoon as the couple returned home from work.

They testified in Carroll County General District Court in Hillsville Friday at a hearing where McGee was ordered held for the grand jury on the Carroll charges.
