LACK OF WORKERS HURT SPCA BINGO

FOR A number of years, I have volunteered to work the bingo games of the Society for the Preservation of Animals. I have worked every aspect of the game. I have been a concerned member of the Roanoked Valley SPCA interested in helping the animals.

It is not true that the bingo laws were changed - we were only informed that the present laws would be enforced. These did not make a hardship for the games. The only problem with SPCA bingo was lack of dedicated workers.

I cannot understand an organization that says it cannot survive unless it receives $45,000, but is not willing to work to raise it. It is easy to sit back and criticize someone else's efforts. But for them to turn their backs on a fund-raiser that they said in their own publication was vital to their existence is more than I can understand.

One year ago they had in the bingo account approximately $65,000, raised solely by bingo games, which was turned over to the current board. This alone tells the importance of bingo to non-profit organizations, and of willing workers who are not members in name only. CLAYTON BILLER ROANOKE
