PICK 3 ANNIVERSARY SETS RECORD

The Virginia Lottery had a record $1,405,370 in Pick 3 sales Tuesday, the first anniversary of the game.

To celebrate the anniversary, the Lottery paid out an extra 50 percent for Pick 3 prizes. A $1 exact-order win paid $750 instead of the usual $500; a three-way any-order wager paid $240 instead of $160. Tuesday's winning number 2-2-9 paid out a total of $1,323,075.

Retailers also got a bonus birthday present from the Lottery Tuesday. The normal 5 percent commission on Pick 3 tickets went to 7.5 percent. The 1,674 retailers selling Pick 3 tickets earned an additional $35,000.
