ATLANTA GETS '94 SUPER BOWL

Atlanta was awarded the 1994 Super Bowl by National Football League owners on Wednesday.

Atlanta plans to have a new domed stadium built by that time. It will be the first Super Bowl for the city.

The next three Super Bowls are at Tampa, Fla. (1991), Minneapolis (1992) and Phoenix (1993).

The $210 million downtown Georgia Dome - which will seat 70,500, making it the third-largest dome in the NFL - is scheduled for completion in 1992 and will house the Falcons, who play in Fulton County Stadium.

Getting the 1994 Super Bowl didn't come cheaply for Atlanta.

The city's offer included $5.4 million and various inducements, such as use of the Falcons' Gwinnett County training complex and Georgia tech's Grant Field as practice facilities; use of the Georgia Dome for a full week prior to the Super Bowl; free use of 340 hotel rooms; and 100 percent of the net concession stand revenues to the NFL.
