2 MORE ARRESTED AT AIRPORT

The crackdown on drug smuggling at Roanoke Regional Airport netted two more suspects Wednesday night, authorities said.

A man and a woman from Bronx, N.Y., were charged shortly after 7 p.m. by Roanoke vice officers, according to court records.

Catherine Ford, 29, is charged with possessing crack cocaine with an intent to distribute. Todd Wesley Green, 24, is charged being an accessory to possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute.

Green has previous drug convictions in New York, court records show.

The pair was being held in Roanoke City Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond each. They were scheduled to appear in Roanoke General District Court this morning.

Last week, authorities seized $200,000 worth of cocaine at the airport within a three-day period.

The arrest of a teen-age girl and New York woman netted local authorities their two largest crack busts to date.

Although police have declined to comment on the scope of their investigation, the arrests seem to be part of a concentrated crack eradication effort at the airport.

In many cases, drug dealers employ "mules" or couriers, who transport the drugs for cash.
