THREE SUSPICIOUS FIRES INVESTIGATED

A woman has been charged with trying to start a fire outside a bedroom door of a Roanoke home Wednesday night, and authorities Thursday were investigating two other suspicious house fires that apparently were unrelated. No one was injured.

Authorities are investigating the following reports:

The first fire was reported Wednesday night at 4314 Delray St. N.W., where resident Harry Harris was charged with attempted arson.

When authorities arrived, they found paper had been ignited in front of a bedroom door. The fire was put out before it caused serious damage.

Authorities said the suspect had apparently been drinking and was "extremely disorderly," and had to be forcibly removed from the scene.

At 1:30 a.m. Thursday, fire broke out in a vacant home at 655 Day Ave. S.W. Authorities believe the fire was set.

The blaze, which destroyed the vacant house, also caused about $25,000 in damage to an adjacent home at 657 Day Ave., authorities said. The residents were home at the time, but were not injured.

At 3:14 a.m. Thursday, Gary Trout woke up to find the bedroom of his aparment at 1017 Chapman Avenue S.W. filled with smoke.

Authorities said the blaze caused about $30,000 in damage to the two-story apartment building.
