MOTEL HOLDUP BRINGS FIVE-YEAR SENTENCE

A Buena Vista man convicted this week of armed robbery has been sentenced to five years for the April 17, 1989, holdup of the Days Inn in Wytheville.

David Allen Simpkins already had been sentenced in Pulaski County to 20 years for a robbery of a Dublin convenience store, along with Aaron Twitty, also of Buena Vista. Twitty was sentenced in Pulaski County to 15 years and was not charged in the Wytheville robbery, which was carried out by a lone gunman wearing a stocking mask.

Simpkins was sentenced to 10 years for the Wytheville armed robbery and 10 years for stealing a number of citizen-band radios, with 15 years of the total 20-year terms suspended. - Southwest bureau
