ROBERT J. CULVER has joined Bunker Hill Foods in Bedford as vice president of marketing and sales. He comes to the company from Borden Inc. Bunker Hill is a division of The Smithfield Companies, Inc.

\ W. HOPE PLAYER has been appointed chairperson of the newly formed Young CPAs Committee of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants. She will oversee plans to encourage younger members to become active in the society. Player is principal of her firm, W. Hope Player, CPA and has served on the board of directors of the society for several years.

J. ALLEN LAYMAN, executive vice president of Roanoke & Botetourt Telephone Co., has been elected to the board of directors of the Virginia Telephone Association. M. Dale Tetterton Jr., manager of Buggs Island Telephone Cooperative in Bracey, was elected president of the association.

\ G. ROGER JENNINGS has been named sales manager for the new Padtech Inc. manufacturing facility being built at the Bowles Industrial Park in Henry County.

\ GARY MELTON has joined Type-It Print-It as sales and production manager for the company's new architectural and engineering reproduction facility.

\ Judith G. Jones, formerly of Roanoke, has been promoted to manager of community relations for Phillip Morris U.S.A.

\ Raymond W. Smith, chairman and chief executive officer, Bell Atlantic Corp., has been elected a director of USAir Group, parent of USAir.
