Marvin (Mark) Miller Morris, age 77, of Route 3, Galax, passed away Friday. He was the son of Alfred H. and Pearl Carico Morris. He was born April 7, 1913, in Carroll County. Mr. Morris was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II; a member of the First Baptist Church; Galax V.F.W. Post No. 7568; and the Galax American Legion. He had been a member of the Galax Moose Lodge since 1938 and was a charter member of the Oakland Ruritan Club and member of the Galax Lions Club. He was a retired postal clerk and farmer. He was preceded in death by a sister, Edith Carpenter, and two brothers, Porter and Denver Morris. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Glennis Stanley Morris; daughter and son-in-law, Marie A. and Donald R. Meador, Sr. of Galax; seven sisters, Mrs. Lillian M. Dearing, Winchester; Mrs. Olive M. Morris, Mt. Airy, N.C.; Mrs. Nell M. Combs, Galax; Mrs. Bernice M. Miller and Mrs. Jewel M. Garrity, both of Baltimore, Md.; Mrs. Jessie M. Wood, Asheboro, N.C., and Mrs. Eva Sue M. Powell of Danville; two brothers, William J. Morris and Chester C. Morris, both of Galax; three grandsons, Donnie R. Meador, Jr., Ashley Meador, Stanley Meador; one great-granddaughter, Ashlyn Meador. The funeral service for Mr. Morris will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with burial in the Oakland Cemetery. Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home, Galax, is in charge of the arrangements.
