Lloyd Gilmer Chittum, age 81, died Friday, May 25, 1990, in the Liberty House Nursing Home, Waynesboro. Mr. Chittum was born February 27, 1909, in Rockbridge County, a son of the late Clyde Wilson Chittum and Lula Cox Chittum. He was retired from N&W Railway. He was preceded in death by a brother, Tuck Chittum, and a sister, Modema Smiley. Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Helen Ayers, Steeles Tavern; Mrs. Jean Brown, Altavista; Mrs. Pauline Austin and Mrs. Ruth Brooks, both of Raphine; five brothers, Burness Chittum of Staunton; Elmer Chittum of Harrisonburg; Everett Chittum of Stuarts Draft; Earl Chittum, Fishersville; and James Chittum of Fairfield; two stepsons, Everett Jones of Vinton; Jamie Jones of Tennessee; two stepgrandchildren, Jackie and Mike Jones, both of Vinton. Funeral services will be conducted at the graveside at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Cemetery officiated by the Rev. Carson Riley and the Rev. Albert Schrader. Memorial donations may be made to the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Building Fund or the Fairfield First Aid Crew. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington.
