OFFICIALS INVESTIGATING PATRICK COUNTY TEACHER

Patrick County authorities confirmed Saturday that they are investigating a male schoolteacher accused of improper conduct with female students.

County school Superintendent Dennis Witt said the Patrick County High School teacher has been suspended with pay until the investigation is concluded. Witt said the county department of social services will be asked to join in the investigation Monday.

The school board is expected to discuss the matter at a meeting Tuesday night.

Witt said the improper conduct was alleged to have taken place over the past month and involved several students.

He would not specify the nature of the alleged misconduct or name the teacher involved.

Sheriff Jay E. Gregory said his department was asked to look into the matter after school officials conducted a preliminary inquiry, which included the questioning of students.
