TRUCK LOADS OF TROPHIES COMING TO SALEM SHOW

Lawrence Barger, a Roanoke businessman and big-game hunter, traveled to the Dixie Deer Classic in Raleigh, N.C. and was so impressed that he wondered: "Why not have a show like that in the Roanoke Valley?"

The result is what Barger is calling the Old Dominion Buck and Bass Classic 1990, scheduled next Saturday and Sunday at the Salem Civic Center.

"I will have two tractor-trailer loads of big game heads," he said.

While the show will be aimed at the hunter, the fishermen hasn't been left out. On display will be the mount of the world record largemouth bass, a 22\ -pounder landed in 1932. Also featured will be the newest Ranger bass boats.

The main attraction will be three major big game displays - Randy's Outdoorsman, Jackson Family and Bill Griffin - which will include the No. 2 all-time Boone and Crockett head (Hole in Horn Buck) and the No. 1 typical and non-typical Pope and Young archery deer.

"It will be the biggest display of game heads ever in Virginia," said Barger.

Show hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The admission is $5 for adults; children under 12 free.

Numerous outfitters and equipment dealers will have booths, Barger said. Additional information is available at 563-4782.
