THURMAN, W. ALLEN, SR.

\ W. Allen Thurman, Sr., 82, passed away late May 24, 1990 in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. His wife, Evelyn, pre-deceased him. He was the son of Dr. Allen G. Thurman and Fannie Leslie Wingfield, and the grandson of Dr. William P. Thurman and Docia Key all of Bedford Co. He was graduated from Appomattox High School and attended the Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy. He worked for the Norfolk Southern Railway for 44 years in the Passenger Traffic Department and the Freight Traffic Department. He was a member of the Board of Stewards of Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of the Vinton Lions Club and T.P.A. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Ann Dickerson of Atlanta, Ga.; and a son, Dr. W. Allen Thurman, Jr. of Richmond; and four grandchildren, Scott Dickerson, Kathryn Thurman, Sarah Thurman and Susan Thurman; a sister, Frances Dowdy, Vinton; brothers, Warren Thurman, Vinton; and Wilton Thurman, Roanoke; a sister-in-law, Lucille Thurman, Vinton; and several cousins. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 1990 at Mountain View Cemetery with the Rev. George Wesley Jones officiating. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel after 12:00 noon Sunday.
