ANIMAL PROTECTIONISTS PLAN NATIONAL MARCH

The people who believe animals should be treated more humanely are about to stage their first national event, a "March for the Animals" intended to demonstrate that their movement is becoming a mainstream cause.

The organizers have lined up a number of pro-animal celebrities to address the crowd - ranging from cartoonist Berke Breathed to professional basketball player James Donaldson - and anticipate hearing from a number of sympathetic politicians too. The political speakers have not been announced because they are still being recruited.

The march, from the Ellipse behind the White House to the Capitol, is scheduled for June 10.
