FIVE-STAR BASKETBALL RETURNING TO RADFORD

Five-Star Basketball returns to Radford University with a men's session running June 9-15 and one for women June 16-21.

This will mark the sixth straight year Radford has served as the host site for one of Howard Garfinkel's Five-Star men's camps, which feature premier high school basketball players from across the country. This year's session is expected to draw 360 campers.

Among the speakers scheduled to appear at the men's camp are Kentucky coach Rick Pitino on June 10; North Carolina-Charlotte coach Jeff Mullins on June 11; Wake Forest coach Dave Odom on June 12; and Davidson coach Bob McKillop on June 14. A speaker for June 13 has not been announced.

The camp will run in conjunction with the Fred Barakat Officiating School. Barakat, an assistant commissioner of the Atlantic Coast Conference and the supervisor of officials for the ACC and Big South Conference, has conducted an officiating camp at Five-Star for the past nine years.

The women's Five-Star camp returns to Radford for the seventh straight year on June 16. About 175 campers from the region are expected to attend. Joe Sanchez, women's coach at Wake Forest, will be a guest speaker. Other lecturers will be announced later. - Staff report
