MONTGOMERY SCHOOL BOARD TO HEAR GRIEVANCE

The Montgomery County School Board will meet tonight at 7:30 in an executive, or closed, session to discuss the grievance of a Shawsville High School guidance counselor.

The counselor, Fran Weiss, filed a formal grievance with the board last Wednesday, according to her husband, Alex Weiss.

Last month, the board agreed that Weiss could proceed with the grievance process.

The grievance involves a letter of reprimand sent to Weiss from her supervisor, the school's assistant principal, in January. Weiss, who has been told she would be moved back to the classroom to teach this fall, has asked that the letter be retracted.

The letter reprimanded Weiss and accused her of handling a student matter in an unprofessional manner, Weiss has said. She said the letter concerned her refusal to breach confidentiality with a female student.

The request for a retraction was refused by the assistant principal, the principal and the assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, Alex Weiss said.

Because of a reporter's error, the wrong date was given for a special meeting of the Montgomery County School Board in Wednesday's newspaper.

The board will meet tonight at 7:30 in a closed session to discuss the grievance of a Shawsville High School guidance counselor. The meeting was not scheduled for Wednesday night, as reported.

The counselor, Fran Weiss, filed a grievance with the board last week, according to her husband, Alex Weiss.

The grievance involves a letter of reprimand sent to Weiss by her supervisor, the school's assistant principal, last January. Weiss, who has been informed she will be reassigned to classroom teaching next fall, has asked that the letter be retracted.
