HAMPDEN-SYDNEY RAZING ITS `ALAMO'

Hampden-Sydney College has decided to raze the oldest building on campus, a move opposed by some alumni and students.

The college board of trustees voted this month to tear down the building, called the "Alamo," because engineers determined it was unsafe.

The oldest part of the structure was built in 1817 and was the home of President Woodrow Wilson's parents when Wilson's father was a professor at Hampden-Sydney.
