MONITORS RECORD TEST OF CHINESE N-BOMB

China has conducted its first nuclear weapons test in nearly two years, Swedish monitors said Wednesday.

Seismic signals picked up Saturday indicated a bomb with a yield of 40 to 50 kilotons was detonated at the Lop Nor test site in Xinjiang Province, said the government-run Hagfors Observatory.

One kiloton has the explosive force of 1,000 tons of TNT. The bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan during World War II had an explosive force of 20 kilotons. - Associated Press
