UVA PLAYERS TRYING OUT FOR U.S. NATIONAL TEAM

University of Virginia basketball players Tammi Reiss and Dawn Staley are in Colorado Springs, Colo., to try out for the U.S. women's national team.

Reiss is participating in open tryouts, which begin tonight. After a morning session Friday, cuts will be made and the remaining players will join the invitees, including Staley for an afternoon practice. Tryouts continue through the weekend.i

Both UVa players are guards and will be entering their junior year in the fall.i

The final roster for the national team will be announced June 4. That team will compete at the World Championships July 9-22 in Malaysia. Two other squads also will be selected to compete in summer tournamaents and exhibitions in Europe.
