MAN WALKING IN PARK ROBBED OF BOOM BOX

Two suspects, one armed with a toy gun, robbed a man of an $85 boom box in Southeast Roanoke Wednesday evening.

Authorities said the theft of the portable stereo cassette player and radio occurred about 8:30 p.m. in Golden Park in the 1500 block of Carlisle Avenue Southeast.

Police said the two suspects brandished the gun at Steven Morris Peters before striking him and taking the stereo equipment.

According to court records, Ronnie Vandon Neamo, 29, of the 2000 block of Gandy Avenue Northwest was charged with armed robbery and use of a firearm in connection with the incident.

A juvenile also was in custody, authorities said. Information on charges on the juvenile was not available Wednesday evening.

Neamo was being held Wednesday evening in the Roanoke City Jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned this morning in Roanoke Circuit Court.

Police said the investigation by Officer M.J. Cain is continuing.
