MOM WHO LEFT BABY IN SUBWAY STATION IS FOUND

Social services authorities and transit police have located the woman who abandoned a 3-month-old girl at the Rosslyn Metrorail Station in suburban Virginia.

"We're not leaning toward pressing charges," Beverly Silverberg, spokeswoman for Metro, said Wednesday. "We're leaning toward helping the mother and the baby. We're going to do what we can to make sure they get the care they need."

Arlington Social Services and Metro officials would not release the name of the woman or details about the abandonment.

The baby was given to a stranger at the Metro station about 2 p.m. Tuesday. A woman asked a stranger to hold the baby for a moment, then jumped on an escalator and fled. Authorities took the baby to an area hospital, where she was found to be in good health and did not appear to be neglected.

The baby remained in the hospital Wednesday afternoon while social services authorities sought custody of her in Arlington District Court.
