NO LINK FOUND IN DISAPPEARANCES, SLAYINGS

Police say they have not established any connection between the disappearance of a Richmond woman and her ex-boyfriend and unsolved slayings and disappearances of young couples on the Peninsula.

Special Agent L.E. McCann of the state police and Maj. Stuart Cook of the Richmond police said Wednesday they are examining all possible explanations for the disappearance of Deborah Ferguson, a 21-year-old Virginia Commonwealth University student, and James Sherrin, 20. So far, they said, no evidence links the Ferguson and Sherrin case with the Peninsula cases.

"We don't have any reason to suspect there's any connection," Cook said.

Ferguson and Sherrin, a former VCU student, were last seen on Friday, May 18, at Sherrin's Richmond home. They left in Ferguson's white Ford Escort; it was found eight days later, undisturbed, on the city's North Side.
