If you have a 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing Coupe parked in the garage, you're looking at $180,000.
Is there a carnival-glass punch bowl stashed inside the cupboard behind that handy-dandy Slice-O-Dice-O-Matic? Go ahead and fill out a deposit slip for 800 bucks.
Any chance of stumbling across an IBC Crown Select beer can lying around the house somewhere? If it came from the Indianapolis Brewery, it's worth $400.
And how about that stack of old comic books buried in a chest up in the attic?
Start digging - you just might exhume a treasure chest.
A first issue "Superman" comic book in mint condition is pegged at $10,500. A first edition "Captain America" could make you $8,000 richer. Even "Little Lulu" has a price - 400 smackers.
For some collectors, however, there is a value in comic art that transcends cold, hard cast. As one English writer put it: "A good comic book is worth a hundred bad novels."
Fans of the Funnies will be gathering in Radford on Sunday for the annual Comic Book Club Convention put on by the Just-Us Comics League. The event will be held at the Best Western Radford Inn from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Six hours isn't a very long time to spend with the demigods of your childhood - Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash Gordon. It may take at least that long to catch up with old friends like Dick Tracy, Katy Keene or Casper the Friendly Ghost.
Admission is 50 cents at the door. Now that's something of value!
\ SUPPERTIME: Some BIG guys at Blacksburg High School will be putting out a BIG spread Saturday.
The football team will be serving up barbecued chicken and all the fixings at the annual Chicken Barbecue Supper. The event will be held in the school's commons between 5 and 7:30 p.m.
The cost is $4 per plate and take-out trays will be available.
Those big guys will sweat off the calories for you. Proceeds from the supper will be used for the team's preseason football camp.
It's an even exchange - gruel for grub.
\ GIDDYAP AND GO: The Triangle Ruritan Club is sponsoring the Giles County Horse Show this Sunday.
Steeds and stallions will strut their stuff to raise money for completion of a new community building in Bane.
Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children under 12. Concessions will be there.
The show gets under way at 2 p.m. at the Old Circle P Stables on Virginia 100 south of Pearisburg. For information, call Lee or Jean Eaton at 921-4363.
\ SAILING: There's no better way to get away from it all.
The Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department is offering an introductory course for wishful windjammers. The class is designed for beginners and will cover equipment, safety and sailing techniques.
Two sessions will be held Wednesday, June 6, and Saturday, June 9, from 2 to 6 p.m. Transportation to Claytor Lake will be provided from the Montgomery County Park.
The cost, including transportation, is only $10, but Monday is the last day to register. To do that, you need to call Dean Crane at 382-6980.
