HOME SALES DROPPED 13

The number of homes sold in the Roanoke Valley last month fell 13 percent compared with a year ago.

So far this year, however, home sales have remained about level with 1989. Multiple Listing Service reported that 313 houses were sold in the Roanoke Valley in May. That compares with 361 a year earlier.

Frances Bridge, spokeswoman for the Roanoke Valley Board of Realtors, said 238 of the homes cost less than $100,000. The median price was $74,950.

One home was sold last month for more than $400,000.

Bridge said that 1990 has so far been an average year for the real estate market. Through May, 1,608 houses changed hands in the valley compared to 1,616 for the same period a year ago.
