But pitching was the Bucs' undoing in the nightcap as the Keys cruised to a 7-1 victory, gaining a split for the second straight night.
Paul Miller and Jim Czajkowski combined on a seven-hit shutout in the opener.
Miller (2-1) gave up six hits and one walk, striking out three in five innings. Czajkowski went the rest of the way to earn his second save. The reliever struck out three and did not walk a batter.
A walk in the first inning led to the only run Salem would need.
Keys starter Jeff Baumgarner walked Greg Sims to start the game. Bruce Schreiber then hit a slow grounder. Third baseman Pete Rose Jr. threw out Schreiber at first, but Sims didn't stop running at second. The Bucs' center fielder took third on the play and scored on a single to left by Domingo Merejo.
A walk to Merejo started a two-run sixth inning for Salem. Tim Hines tripled into the right-field corner to knock in the first run. Darwin Pennye then lofted a sacrifice fly to right-center.
In the second game, the Keys roughed up Stan Fansler (0-2) for nine hits and seven runs in five innings.
Chuck Ricci (4-5) and Todd Stephan combined on a two-hitter for Frederick.
\ BUCSHOTS: The Bucs open a three-game series against Prince William today at 7 p.m. at Salem Municipal Field.
