MAN WHO IS MUTE ASSAULTED, ROBBED BY FOUR IN ROANOKE

A man who is unable to speak was robbed Thursday by four men in Northwest Roanoke.

Robert William Kelly, 44, was at 11th Street and Orange Avenue about 4 p.m. when four men approached him, knocked him to the ground and took about $200 from his wallet, police said.

The robbers fled, leaving Kelly unharmed.

Kelly, of Willow Road Northwest, went to the home of a friend and was apparently able to explain what had happened to him through gestures and motions.

The friend called police.
