POLICE ARREST ANOTHER CRACK SUSPECT AT AIRPORT

Roanoke police Friday afternoon continued their crackdown on drug trafficking at Roanoke Regional Airport, arresting a 16-year-old carrying about $50,000 worth of crack cocaine.

Police said the juvenile, who gave a New York address, was being held pending a detention hearing.

The arrest was the fifth at the airport since the crackdown began in mid-May.

Police would not release the suspect's name because of the juvenile's age.

Two people police said were carrying 111 grams of crack cocaine were arrested at the airport with on May 23.

Police said they arrested Catherine Ford, 29, and Todd Wesley Green, 25, after finding the crack cocaine in Ford's underclothing.

Ford and Green were released this week by U.S. Magistrate Glen Conrad on $50,000 bond.

Earlier in May, authorities seized $200,000 worth of cocaine at the airport within a three-day period.

The arrest of a teen-age girl and New York woman netted local authorities their two largest crack busts to date.

Although police have declined to comment on the scope of their investigation, the arrests seem to be part of a concentrated crack eradication effort at the airport.
